Philly Wine Mixer Recap x February 2014

I had the opportunity to attend the Philly Wine Mixer this past February and as always it was a great night filled with fashion, music, art appreciation, wine, shopping, and networking!  Nearly 500 guests filled the African American Museum of Art on Friday, February 7, 2014 to enjoy the festivities of the evening.  Guests enjoyed the sounds of Mel Alston Jr. and Sap Sounds music throughout the evening and DJ Aye Boogie kept the crowd going all night long as well.  Various vendors filled the museum with items available for guests to purchase while they enjoyed the various flavors and labels of wine provided throughout the entirety of the event.  Many of the young professionals of the evening were fashionably dressed for the event and ready to enjoy a good time.

Photographer Ricky Codio kept the guests visually intrigued with his display of artistic photography.

In addition to the music and art, there were plenty of stunning and glamorous fashions from local designers in Philadelphia that graced the runway ramps.  These designers held the guests attention until the very end of the night.  There were plenty of bold and bright colors and intricate prints.  Guests were captivated and inspired by the runway designs of the night!

Image

First up was “Lifestyle Basics by AR”, the designer is in the white dress and started the segment off right with these beautiful designs for men and women.  That’s her daughter with that fly vest on, she would’ve stolen the show if she went down the runway, she is so adorable!

Designer Ian Alexander (pictured in the middle with the floral shirt and black cap) was next up to hit the runway ramps in his fresh and vibrant designs that will have all the ladies and gentlemen ready for this spring season!  I love the use of bold colors, lines, and mixing of textures in his line.

This next collection was fierce and full of couture!  Closet by Cristobal, designed by Christopher J. Brown is amazing and this haute couture clothing line brought the drama to all who were in attendance for the fashion segment.  The deep bold colors, prints, leather corset, fur, and hand made accessories were on point and dope.

Mah Jing Wong( designer in the acid washed denim button up) ended the runway segment on a high note!  Mah Jing Wong clearly celebrates the curves of a woman’s body in his signature body con dresses, denim acid wash looks, and geometric shapes.  I absolutely love this collection and I know that women everywhere are raving about his flawless designs!

I was able to capture some moments of Mah Jing Wong on the Philly Wine Mixer runway.

During the various music, art, and fashion segments, there was also an awards ceremony that took place.  Several well known artists from Philadelphia were recipients of the “Live In the Moment Award”, which were given by the creator of the Philly Wine Mixer and Live in the Moment Marketing, Tyrone Dixon.  The award is self explanatory, all of these creative recipients are living in the moment and living out their dreams to their fullest potential everyday.

In the midst of running around, I was able to catch up with the Lead bar tender of the night, Blake- he kept everybody happy and served with the wine!

Lastly, I was able to catch up with the man of the evening who made all of this possible- Tyrone Dixon a.k.a. T-Dot.  Lol I caught him at an intense moment with the closing of the event, but I’m happy he was able to stop for a quick shot.

As you can see from this recap…the Philly Wine Mixer is one of Philly’s hottest events and if you haven’t been to one yet, don’t fret, make plans to attend the next one on Friday, May 2, 2014, from 7-11 pm at the African American Museum of Art.  I’ll keep you updated as we get closer to the date.  In the meantime, check out this video recap of the Philly Wine Mixer on vimeo.

“Gelatto Dreams” x My Art x Inspired

Image

Hi, today’s post is a little personal to me.  I am currently reading a book and I was inspired from a particular chapter in that book to create a painting such as this.  The funny part is, I sketched this painting out about a month ago!  Well, I finally got to it after all the madness settled down.  Although I named this particular painting “Gelatto Dreams”, just because I like the way it sounds and it kind of looks like it….I’ve been eating peach frozen yogurt allllll week long yummy!  This painting is a water color on bristol board- I’m going to start investing in canvas, although this paper is thick and super durable, the edges curled on the final product, so I’ll have to frame it soon to protect it.

Image

When I originally sketched this painting out, I created four squares because I was inspired by Pop Artist Andy Warhol and I only wanted to use bold and bright fantasy colors- life is great with plenty of color!

Image

Got all the color in, just wanted to have some creative fun!

Image

I love the painting at this stage, I was inspired by another great artist, Henri Matisse.  His use of thick bold lines in his art is captivating, since being inspired….I used them as well to outline the painting….it gave the art some life!

Image

The final product as you first saw it.  I added some brush strokes around the painting to make it more lively.  I like…I hope you do too.  Leave your thoughts below, I’d love to know what you think.  If you have any questions, you can leave them in the comments section below.  Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Philly Wine Mixer: A night of Art, Music, and Fashion

Philly Wine Mixer 2-2-2014

Philadelphia is a city that is full of talented artists, fashion designers, and musicians.  For one night, under one roof, the Philadelphia Wine Mixer showcases some of Philly’s best to present their art, perform, and for designers/ stylists to showcase their lines.  This popular event initially began in April 2010, “to create a platform where the talent in the city could commence and showcase through the arts”, and since then it has grown to tremendous proportions.  I have been in the past and it is truly a night to remember and the next mixer will take place on Friday, February 7, 2014, from 7-11pm, at the African American Museum of Art located in Center City, Philadelphia.

At this upcoming event, there will be plenty of talent to be exposed to under one roof.  Photographer Ricky Codio will be showing his photography, Mel Alston Jr. and Sap Sounds will be performing for the crowd, and there will be a fashion presentation with limited VIP seating as well.  Mah Jing Wong, Closet by Cristobal, and the Marquette Collection are amongst some of the fashion collections that will be showing their lines on the runway.  Syreeta Martin, blogger of Sincerely Syreeta, will be hosting the fashion portion of this event!

There will be plenty of art, fashion, and music to partake of as well as unlimited wine and hors d’ouvres for guests who purchase the open wine bar or VIP admission tickets.  Attendees will also have an opportunity to mingle amongst the vendors and the lead vendor of the night is Duke & Winston.  An awards segment will also take place during the evening, where honorees Curran Swint- stylist and creator of the brand “Kings Rule Together”, Iris Bonner- artist of “These Pink Lips”, and John Barber- manager and music producer, will be receiving the official “Live In the Moment award”, from the creator of the Philly Wine Mixer and of LITM Marketing, Tyrone Dixon.

Handle your Biz

Image

A sample of my business card…it’s just about complete and I hope it prints alright…but I need this badly!!!

I created it in Adobe Illustrator, I first began by taking a picture of myself and sketching it by hand…it was a nice sketch but not the final template for my business card.  I loaded the sketch into illustrator, but I wasn’t satisfied keeping the sketch for my card…so I took sometime and used the tools in Illustrator over the course of a few hours to trace and construct my business card.  It is done…finally!  But this may not be it…I may play with other styles and designs as I become inspired.

I chose to use my eyes at the foreground for the card, because the eyes have a story to tell and everyday that I blog, I am sharing my story with you all.  If you look into anyone’s eyes, they don’t have to part their lips to speak because their eyes are telling all.  The eyes are the window to the soul and on this “journee” I’ve opened the window with some limits and boundaries.  I was deciding on whether to use shoes or eyes as the foreground and I believe the eyes are a perfect fit.

Although I began as a fashion writer, I also love to share everyday stories, art, music, and so much more with you all across this platform…there’s no box available for me to fit in…I just don’t belong in one.  But this is my card and I’d love to read your thoughts on it…I look forward to your comments.

…As always…thanks for stopping by….

Change YOUR Story

Image

Inspired by life itself…every body has a story to tell and you are the author of “your story.”  No one else can tell what you’ve been through like you can, others may try and begin to spread lies, but the truth eventually surfaces.  Others may try to assume and figure out what you’ve been through, but no one knows the story or has the answers quite like you.  This was random, but definitely inspirational to me.

I used deep blue for the lips because I like using bold colors when I create any random art work…and I again I used bubble letters lol to write the phrase “my story” across the lips with a contrasting orange hue to play as the shadow in this sketch.  The story that you have to tell isn’t quite the same from everyone else’s lips.  Everyone has a story and a mouth that God gave them so they can share their story of what they have been through, overcome, and been blessed to walk into.

You never know who is waiting to hear “your story”, so use your story to bless the lives of others and encourage them to greatness.  We have all faced obstacles in life and have triumphed to greater heights as a result of them.  Don’t be weary or lose hope, there is space for your story as well and all the blessings that will precede it in the end once you have triumphed victoriously over every circumstance that you have faced in this lifetime.

There’s no time to give up, but there is time to hope and press forward into the greatness that you have been called to endeavor into.  Today is still here and tomorrow is still on its way, so take some time today to plan and excel into the great plan that God predestined for you to execute.  There’s no time like the present and the past is gone, but the future is around the corner, so take advantage today to make “your story” a great one, one of the best of all times.  Turn “your story” into a legacy today by trying again after every failed attempt and pressing forward into the success that you see for your future!

…As always…thanks for stopping by….
