Where does your PASSION lie?

Image

What motivates you?  What drives you?  What is the one thing you cannot live without?  For me, it’s overall creativity and freedom of thought and expression.  That’s something that I put in the back closet for a long time…instead of moving in full force to achieve my dreams and goals…I stopped.  Somewhere along the way, I stopped.  If you know me, then you know that’s not normal for me…I almost had to drop out of college due to lack of funding…but I’m the girl who e-mailed the president of the university and was able to come across the funding to stay in school and graduate based off of that one e-mail.  Once I graduated, I went in full force to pursue my dreams and I was on the right track…but somewhere along the way I derailed and lost sight of achieving my dreams.  I lost focus and stopped.

Eventually, I got tired of being knocked down, denied, and crushed because of the lack of resources that were available to me.  This happens to many of us somewhere along the way…and I totally lost my focus.  But one day…as I looked into my daughter’s eyes, I realized that I wanted more for her future and for mines as well.  I didn’t want her to think that mediocre living was okay, so I began to live once again through the gift that God has given me.  I live for creativity!  At times, I did become frustrated and discouraged by the lack of support that I was receiving from my former relationship…yet I continued to press on with my daughter on my hip.  I am blessed to have come across some amazing entrepreneurs that encouraged me to pursue what I love.

Jermaine Pratt of JPratt foot wear once said to me when I had my daughter on my hip at Philly Fashion Week “hey, she has to get used to the runway shows, this is what you do and she’ll be apart of it someday.”  I ran across Big Rube Harley in Center city one day and he said to me “don’t worry about the bills or anything because they’re gonna be there regardless, just go for what you love to do…don’t worry about that stuff.”  Big Rube is such a cool dude and he is a photographer for the Daily News, high fashion photographer being booked in NY now, co-owns a farmer’s market, and he used to co-own Mitchell &Ness in Philadelphia.  What he said does sound scary…especially having a child…however I see what he is saying.  Basically, he’s saying “Live your Dreams”, and I agree…but I won’t be quitting my job anytime soon.

Even Philly’s own Hip Hop Artist Chase Allen…I first found out about him at the Philly Wine Mixer and I just liked his performance at first.  I received a copy of his mix tape and decided to listen to it one night and since then…I’ve been a fan.  My go to track on his mix tape “Tunnel Vision”, is track 4, “Passion”, that song hit home for me.  Basically, he talks about Passion in three parts…his passion for music, his moms passion for his father, and Jesus’ passion for the world.  The hook is “you gotta have passion, you gotta have passion, if all else fails….at least you got your passion.”  That alone had me thinking…do I have my passion?

For a long time, I lost myself…I lost myself to the pain and hurt of regret and doubt.  Being around individuals who are moving and continue to make moves…I decided that its time for me to move again.  There’s no growth in staying still…sometimes for a moment we do need to be still because of life’s circumstances, however at some point it’s time to pick up and start moving again….and that’s where I am.  Where are you?

Just a little Insight…’Tis the Season!

Image

It’s that time of year again when everyone is caught up in the hustle and bustle of gift giving and receiving.  There are last minute sales to attend, plenty of gift wrapping and prepping for that special dinner with family on Christmas Day!  Kids are going crazy with anticipation about what gifts they will get off of their Christmas list this year and parents are either frazzled or prepared for the upcoming gift exchange.  There are gifts for the special people in our lives, whether they be close friends, neighbors, teachers, doctors, nurses, crossing guards, bus drivers and more.  While all of this is great, lets not lose sight of the meaning of this season and what everyday should mean to everyone of us to add something special.

In my opinion, Christmas is about giving thanks.  This holiday was set up because someone decided this is when Jesus was born.  Jesus’ birth is not a light subject, it either brings joy or controversy in the midst of a conversation.  In my life, it brings joy…the joy of knowing that God loved me enough to send His only Son to save me and the rest of the world!  Because of this, I feel so special!!!  For that reason, this holiday should be one of giving thanks…yeah I know that Thanksgiving just passed, but lets not lose sight.  Whether you are Jewish, atheist, buddhist, or whatever you do, you probably celebrate Christmas and when you do, you celebrate with loved ones and those that matter most to you.  Because of work, other obligations and responsibilities, we don’t get to be around our loved ones that often.  So during this special time of year, just be sure to take time out to relax and show the ones you love how much you love them.

Showing love doesn’t always come through giving gifts, although receiving gifts always feels great…hey the gift of Salvation is the GREATEST gift we can receive and it feels great to have that!  But lets not get too caught up in the gifting process, but rather lets get caught up in the loving process with family, friends, and those that we appreciate in our lives.  Hey, why not take the loving process further and not just do it once a year…but how about we celebrate the joy in love everyday by telling others how much we appreciate them and saving negative attitudes for the garbage.  It doesn’t hurt to try.

As much as I love this time of year and receiving gifts!…how much greater would the whole year be if we could hold this cheer and share it all year….and even take a moment to share it with those who are less fortunate!  Hey, these are just my thoughts and feelings…you don’t have to agree, but I appreciate you stopping by…leave a thought below, I’d love to know what your thoughts are personally.

Handle your Biz

A sample of my business card…it’s just about complete and I hope it prints alright…but I need this badly!!!

I created it in Adobe Illustrator, I first began by taking a picture of myself and sketching it by hand…it was a nice sketch but not the final template for my business card.  I loaded the sketch into illustrator, but I wasn’t satisfied keeping the sketch for my card…so I took sometime and used the tools in Illustrator over the course of a few hours to trace and construct my business card.  It is done…finally!  But this may not be it…I may play with other styles and designs as I become inspired.

I chose to use my eyes at the foreground for the card, because the eyes have a story to tell and everyday that I blog, I am sharing my story with you all.  If you look into anyone’s eyes, they don’t have to part their lips to speak because their eyes are telling all.  The eyes are the window to the soul and on this “journee” I’ve opened the window with some limits and boundaries.  I was deciding on whether to use shoes or eyes as the foreground and I believe the eyes are a perfect fit.

Although I began as a fashion writer, I also love to share everyday stories, art, music, and so much more with you all across this platform…there’s no box available for me to fit in…I just don’t belong in one.  But this is my card and I’d love to read your thoughts on it…I look forward to your comments.

Was It All Worth It?

Image

At the end of the day, we are the only ones that can answer this question…was it all worth it?  The hard work, the blood, the sweat, the tears, the failed attempts, the delays, the transactions that never came through and so much more.  When we first make an attempt at a situation, we step out on faith whatever the plan is.  When we attend college, graduate, get a job, have children, marry, remain single, divorce, separate, start a business, quit a job, choose another career path…we step out on faith when we create these goals and make an attempt to reach them.  We never know the outcome until we have decided that we have come to the end.

Most often the decision is ours on whether or not this is the end.  If financial aid closes its doors to you, you will drop out of school?  Or find another way to finish?  If your job fires you, will you give up or find another one?  If one career path no longer suits you, will you remain miserable or search for another path to take?  If a companion or spouse treats you wrong, will you stay after trying to work it out after multiple failed attempts, or realize your worth and leave?  The choices that we make rely on our belief system and whether or not we believe that the outcome will work out for us.  Too often we make the “the safe choice”, because we need a safety net or back up.

People stay in failing relationships because they heavily fear the thought of being alone.  People stay in dead end jobs because they need the money and fear the the thought of pursuing their dreams.  Some of us quit too easily because we fear that we cannot make it and would rather end the journey now before having to face failure.  At one point and time, I have been all of these….and the question that I ask myself is “was it all worth it?”  My response is “yes.”

Yes, it was worth it…the failures and successes in life that I have faced have all been worth it…God knew what He was doing with me all along and every experience has shaped my present and even my future moves.  I won’t stop here, I will continue to move forward and press everyday, because when in the end when someone asks me “was it all worth it?”  I will know what God has blessed me with because I trusted Him and let go of fear and will answer “yes, it was all worth while.”

From this day forward…I will no longer allow myself to operate in fear.  For too long I have been comfortable operating in other people’s shadows and even as I type these words…I am shaking because this is honestly from within me and I thank God for the change.  I don’t need it to be New Year’s to make a resolution because the decision has already been made and I will no longer delay.  Instead of fearing failure, I will welcome it if it comes, because it will only set me up for success if I learn from the mistakes I’ve made.  I’ve made enough mistakes to know that failure can strengthen you or break you down….I’ve chosen strength over breaking down and will continue to do so.

The choice is yours and I’ve made my decision….

As always…thanks for stopping by….

Change YOUR Story

Image

Inspired by life itself…every body has a story to tell and you are the author of “your story.”  No one else can tell what you’ve been through like you can, others may try and begin to spread lies, but the truth eventually surfaces.  Others may try to assume and figure out what you’ve been through, but no one knows the story or has the answers quite like you.  This was random, but definitely inspirational to me.

I used deep blue for the lips because I like using bold colors when I create any random art work…and I again I used bubble letters lol to write the phrase “my story” across the lips with a contrasting orange hue to play as the shadow in this sketch.  The story that you have to tell isn’t quite the same from everyone else’s lips.  Everyone has a story and a mouth that God gave them so they can share their story of what they have been through, overcome, and been blessed to walk into.

You never know who is waiting to hear “your story”, so use your story to bless the lives of others and encourage them to greatness.  We have all faced obstacles in life and have triumphed to greater heights as a result of them.  Don’t be weary or lose hope, there is space for your story as well and all the blessings that will precede it in the end once you have triumphed victoriously over every circumstance that you have faced in this lifetime.

There’s no time to give up, but there is time to hope and press forward into the greatness that you have been called to endeavor into.  Today is still here and tomorrow is still on its way, so take some time today to plan and excel into the great plan that God predestined for you to execute.  There’s no time like the present and the past is gone, but the future is around the corner, so take advantage today to make “your story” a great one, one of the best of all times.  Turn “your story” into a legacy today by trying again after every failed attempt and pressing forward into the success that you see for your future!
